Our UMAHS World Language Department is buzzing with immersive learning across Spanish, French, and German! Our students are stepping beyond textbook grammar to experience real-world language, culture, and critical thinking in action.
Check out how our Viking students are bringing languages to life this week:

Spanish: Putting culinary skills to the test in class while celebrating Spanish-speaking countries, cultural products, and heritage pride through student-led presentations! -
German: Engaging in hands-on vocabulary building with a table-setting challenge, leveraging EdPuzzle for video analysis, and holding a thought-provoking Gallery Walk on refugee perspectives. -
French: Fostering authentic comprehension and independent reading through target-language literature and silent reading sessions. -
Multilingual Dialogues: Practicing authentic, real-time conversations in Spanish, French, and German with collaborative teacher input and support every step of the way!
From kitchen skills and literature to global issues and conversational fluency, our students are truly becoming global citizens!

National Honor Society students at UMAHS who participate in the county-wide Voices for Education had their first meeting of the school year at the MCIU on September 23rd. They discussed successes & challenges in education & started learning about how to advocate for change.

Congratulations to UMAHS senior Dillon Doan! Dillon was recently named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist! The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes top-performing students nationwide, with Semifinalists representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors.
Dillon plans to study Mechanical Engineering in college. This summer, he worked with a research team at Widener University to develop a copper electroplating attachment for 3D printers. At UMAHS, Dillon is the captain of the tennis team, competes in DECA, and supports Mini-THON fundraising.
Congratulations, Dillon, on this outstanding achievement! 👏

HS Classroom Library Showcase: Aside from the assigned literature, UMAHS English classes encourage books that allow students to explore their personal interests and connections. When students investigate classroom libraries & the school library, they begin to see themselves as readers with choice and take ownership of their reading.
