History
Deutsch Klub 2014-2015 by German Club Secretary Allison Wambach
Hallo! In the fall, one of our first activities involved the exchange students that were visiting. We hosted a party to welcome them, and we hosted a going away party one of their last days. We celebrated National German week in October with a variety of events like Trivia Contests, German-music Friday, Guess the Amount of Gummi Bears in the Jar, Find the German Flags, and Sauerkraut in the face a Teacher (Herr Skonier was this year’s winner…or maybe loser). During the winter, the club did one of our annual activities of selling Advent calendars. We also sponsored a toy drive for Toys for Tots and Cradle to Crayons, where we collected more than 50 toys.
Before winter break many students participated in our yearly German Christmas Caroling. The club sang many songs from "Kling, Glöcklein Kling" to "Rudolph mit Rotem Naschen". Later in the year, we participated in a Soccer Tournament against all the other language clubs. During the rest of the year, we had many of our usual events such as the Kaffee Haus, a visit to the Middle School to teach a lesson, and the Karneval Party. The next three events are new to this year. The German club had a fun table with music and food at Literacy Night to go along with the theme of cultural diversity. We participated in the school-wide Upper Merion Lip Dub, a senior project by Jen Merritt about school spirit. The last new event we participated in was a Floor Hockey Tournament between all the language clubs; that we won. The last event we did to close the 2014-2015 school year was a final trip down to the Middle School to teach them weather and free-time vocabulary.

German students visit UM!From October 13th - October 31st, 21 German students visited Upper Merion. They stayed with various families in the district. They visited our school for 4 days during their two week stay. Everyone had an incredible time and made some great international friendships.
German Advent Calendars
We had a great sale of German Advent Calendar from November 8th - November 30th.
2011-2012:
Last school year, the German Club had a wunderbar year! Through various bake sales and promoting German, the club continued to grow.
In the fall, we had a sucessful German Kaffee Haus where students were able to perform and hang out, while enjoying German delicacies. For pictures from past Kaffee Hauses, check out my Photo Album.
In the winter we sold German advent calendars and sung German carols through the school.
In February, the club participated in a multicultural dinner with the Spanish and French clubs for a Karneval/Mardi Gras. The German club provided mask making opportunities and delicious authentic German dishes, such as Wiener Schnitzel, Leberkas and Apfelmus Pfannkuchen (apple sauce pancakes).
In March, the club participated in Multicutural Day with a German Garten (pictured above). We had German food, music, authentic items from Germany, photos and books and a powerpoint showing scenes from Germany. Students sampled Bratwursts and Sauerkraut, along with some good ol' German Ompah music.
Near the end of the school year, members from the club created a lesson on Weather vocabulary which was taught to a German class in the middle school. The students became teachers, helping the eight graders learn about the weather in German and how to talk about it. The lesson was a great success for both the middle schoolers and their high school "teachers."
