Laptop Program
Philosophy
Our primary mission for the One-to-One initiative is to transform teaching, learning, and assessment at Upper Merion Area High School. We believe that technology rich classrooms, when facilitated by properly prepared teachers, are the vehicles to achieve this goal.
Our goals are:
- To increase academic rigor, better preparing students for post-secondary success.
- To increase student engagement in our classrooms through the meaningful integration of technology in the daily curriculum.
- To differentiate instruction in the classroom using technology to facilitate the classroom structure and when applicable instruction.
- To "level the playing field" allowing equal access to technology for all our student population.
The district issued laptop, charger, and protective case are the property of the Upper Merion Area School District. Laptops will be assigned to high school students, enrolled on a full-time basis, and must be returned to the Upper Merion Area School District at the conclusion of each school year. The laptop, case, and charger must be returned in original working condition. Damage not covered under insurance will be the responsibility of the student and/or parent.
The district issued laptop are educational tools and are to be used only in that capacity. Students using the laptops are bound by the Upper Merion Area School District’s Acceptable Use Policy regardless of location of usage. The policy is available through the district web site (www.umasd.org/aup) The use of the laptop is a privilege that can be revoked upon violation of the Acceptable Use Policy. Inappropriate use or neglect of a MacBook Air, the charger, its case, the Internet, or any other installed software will result in the loss of use of the MacBook Air. Loss of use of the student laptop will not change classroom expectations and assignment completion.
