Emergency Closing
EMERGENCY CLOSING
The UMASD Superintendent will evaluate weather conditions and determine if it is necessary to delay the opening of school, dismiss early, or close schools for the day.
The district will make every effort to announce weather-related decisions by 6AM.
When weather-related decisions are made, families and staff will be contacted directly regarding school operations through the UMASD Sapphire Notification system. Sapphire Notification will automatically dial all contact numbers when weather-related decisions are made.
The Superintendent’s Office will also communicate in the following ways:
- UMASD website www.umasd.org
- Viking Channel (Comcast Cable Channel 28 and Verizon Channel 32)
- UMASD information line (610) 205-6460
- Television, radio, or online - local media outlets
- CBS Channel 3/KYW Newsradio 1060 (Upper Merion's code is 307)
- ABC Channel 6 Action News
- NBC Channel 10 News
- Fox Channel 29 News
If schools are closed or dismissed early, all extracurricular activities and other activities are canceled for that day.
Parents should consider making contingency plans with neighbors, friends or relatives, to assure that their child has adult supervision (as needed) and a place to go in case of late starts, early dismissals, or school closings.
High School students are discouraged from driving to school in inclement weather. District bus transportation is a safer option.
